Master Artist Charles R. Kern and his wife Jan
formed Natural Creations in 1991 and have been
making their our own personal line of indoor tabletop fountains
ever since. They
both come from very athletic backgrounds. Charles was
highly successful tri-athlete and Dragon Boater. Jan a
very dedicated Body Builder. Charles' originality and
being able to understand the complexity of how water
flows, were nurtured
from a very successful 15 year water-scaping & landscaping career. But his eye for sculpting and being
able to recreate the essence of nature in a miniature
fountain display, can only be said to have been a God
given talent. He also has the uncanny ability to create
virtually any kind of fountain design for someone just
by talking to them for a few short moments. Jan's background stems from her highly
successful, 25 plus year, hair styling career. Her eye
for detail makes her the perfect candidate to put many
of the finishing touches on the fountains. The first
step to creating one of Kern's fountains is that the
Featherock is selected from an enormous mountain of
boulders, which come from the High Sierras of California.
Charles then visualizes where the water will flow and
where the plant material will be located. He then
hand-sculpts the fountain keeping every detail in mind.
When Charles is finished sculpting the display, he tests
it to make sure that the water is flowing properly and
does not splash. The water flow not only has to be
pleasing visually, but it has to have the correct sound
as well. He then hands it to Jan so that she can choose
the proper decorative fountain bowl for the waterfall.
All of the decorative bowls are designed, cast and hand
painted by them as well. Jan then designs and constructs
the miniature stone wall, that supports each and every
display, in the decorative fountain bowl. After that she
installs all of the lighting and underwater fogging
effects and attaches any decorative mosses. She then
passes the fountain back to Charles, who then garnishes
it with the proper plant material. When the fountain is
completely finished, it is then filled with water and tested a
final time to make sure that it does not splash and that
it sounds peacefully tranquil. Their unique harmony of
working side by side is evident in all of their
fountains. Each and every one of their displays is an
absolute work of moving art. Their
ideas have grown and so have the sizes and varieties of these
fascinating miniature waterfall scenes. Just
one fountain can take anywhere from one to thirty hours
to produce. To date they have
made close to 14,000 tabletop fountains. If you would like to meet
the artists and see at least 70 of these
marvelous displays, then come visit them at their fountain
gallery in Lansdale, Pa.
Their mission is and always has been
to provide you, the client, with the most reliable,
esthetic,
best sounding and as maintenance
free fountain as humanly possible.
They put their heart and soul into each and every display
that they design and hand sculpt. The longevity of
their fountains speak for themselves. Charles and Jan's goal is not to
feed the quantity but the "quality".
So if you are looking for indoor fountains
that are esthetically pleasing, "do not
splash", have a great quality sound, are easily
maintained and most importantly give you many,
many years of pleasure and relaxation, then Welcome
to Natural Creations where "your only
limitation is you own imagination".
